Cob, Scott and Movie Review

Last night I: Hosted a Movie/Potluck night here at the SLC SEED Center, to which only 4 people came – and at various times. The movie did not get shown, but I promised to make it available to those who wanted to see it. I’m not upset that no one came – it was rather last-minute, and without any postings in town or in print (which I’m beginning to suspect is the main way people find out what’s going on out here). Next Sunday night, again at 6:30, we’re going to do it again – this time, however, we’re going to be in the Sustainable Living Department’s Lounge. It’s cool in there, and we’ll have access to the kitchen… I think that will work out better. I’ll need to tell...

More Summer Reading

I finished Utopia by Sir Thomas More last night.   I really enjoyed it! Not so much for the practicality of it (it was written in the 1500′s, after all), but for the somewhat radical ideas put forth… and very interesting. For a man who’s drive is to create a new society, any and all ideas are welcome, and a classic like this should have been on my “consumed” list a long time ago.

Files and Websites

I’ve been taking breaks from working on my presentation to the Board to rifle through the neglected file cabinet we found downstairs. All sorts of papers, bend and slightly moldy from the humidity, and jostled together – tax information, grant and donation receipts, newsletters and regular letters, tons of design sketches… including, apparently, the original hand-drawn designs found on the Eco-Village’s self-guided tour! Not having the brain structure necessary to tackle detailed organization of all these papers, I mostly just separated the important from the not, archived anything relating to money, and put ‘em all back in. I’ve got other things to do, like… Working on the website. …which I don’t...

This Sunday night at the SLC SEED Center: Potluck and Movie Night! We’ll be watching Food Inc – a must-watch for everyone. Things kick off around...

The Theme of My Internship

seems to be “Uncovering Hidden Things.” Today I replaced the cloth in the SEED Kitchen with some cork floorboard that were donated a while ago. After I did that, I reached under the counter and pulled up everything that had been stored there… and apparently untouched for at least the past year. Among the things I found: Glass jars and bottles of all sorts, a first aid kit, thousands of dirty plastic utensils, cups, a box of sandy dirt,  a orthopedic back brace, beans, two jugs of vinegar, TP, and a large iron bell.

More Board Updates.

Greetings! There are many things to talk about: First up – I’m now on the mailing list, so I receive all Board emails now! I also have access to all the archived emails on the Google Groups site, so I’ve been reading up on the recent history. Are there any more developments with New Spirit Farmland and the purchasing of the rest of Vedic City Farms? I called the vet to see about having our bill reduced or getting some donated back to us – to help facilitate this, I created a “Sustainable Living Coalition” account there. Ken, they needed a person within the group to contact, and since you live closest to where the kitten is, I gave them your name and number. I have to bring her back on Friday to get the stitches out. I...
