Last Internship Blog Post Update Blog Internship. Post.
It’s been quite a ride. Before I get into the details, I just want to say for the record: Not only did I fulfill my internship objectives, I ended up doing far more than was originally planned. I believe everyone I worked with can attest to that. Internship success! We had a Board meeting today, the first one we’ve had since before I started my internship. I feel like it was a really positive meeting – everyone was expressing ideas and getting unified in vision on getting the SLC back on track, fixing up the SEED Center, and so on. My video and correspondence with the Board has been greatly welcomed – I’ve received a lot of positive feedback on my efforts, and I’d like to think that my strong message helped light a fire with...
SEED Center (campus) Ideas
Hello Board, I’m overwhelmingly happy to see Brian’s outline for his long-term vision for the SEED Center! We’ve had some good talks out here about his vision, and I think he’s a huge asset to the SEED Center and the SLC itself. Now that we know (and approve of?) Brian’s plans for his corner, I’d like to talk about out options for the rest of the Center. My question has been – What can we do to the SEED Center to: 1) Significantly reduce the amount of money and time needed to maintain it, and 2) Start producing income and/or resources?Foresting the SEED Campus is a great plan (again, thanks Brian). I’ve talked to Nick about the possibilities, and he’s on board to provide the trees and support. The best part is...
5 Days Left
Sorry for the lack of updates recently – I’ve been trying to focus on my few remaining tasks in these last days. They are: 1) Clean Up Day this Saturday Afternoon- an informal gathering of people to get the SEED Center to a really nice, clean state. 2) Website Proposal – I’m working on a mock-up for website changes, and I should have it done in the next day or so. You can see the original website here: http://www.sustainablelivingcoalition.org/ And my design here: http://www.sustainablelivingcoalition.org/wordpress/ I highly recommend shifting back and forth to really see the differences. 3) Saturday the 20th Party/Fundraiser “Back to School Party” – yeah. I have no real experience with event planning, but here’s...
Board Update – 9 Days Left
Hi Ken + Board, Sorry I didn’t make it out yesterday – was feeling ill, spent the day in bed. I’m back to normal today, however, and I’m getting charged up for my last 9 days as your intern! Since I’ve only got a little more than a week left, I need to start honing my focus down on one or two vital points, while at the same time “packing.” (By “packing” I mean gathering all the relevant information into one clear, easy to find and understand place, so that whomever needs information after I’m gone can find it. I spent far too long hunting down passwords and and other information – so I’ll put everything I have in a very easy, transferable place.) Speaking of, does anyone know where our...
Deconstruction
Yesterday I had a meeting with one of my teachers, and we went over my final papers from his classes. He gave me copies covered in handwritten notes, and this is the email I sent to him today: Hey! So I can’t make out a few of your comments/questions (ya call that handwriting?!), but I think I got some of the more salient points. 1) Drafting. Yeah, shoulda drafted that stuff. If I had editing notes like yours on my book, it would have radically changed the outcome – which is why I haven’t been excited about my book, lacking that. 2) Presentation. My mom pointed out that I tend to speak and write like whatever I’m saying is God’s Own Capital-T Truth, while it’s actually just an idea I kinda believe. We talked about that...
Protected: Presentation to the Board of Directors
This is my presentation to the Board of Directors regarding the current state of the SLC and various options available to us. This post is password protected. While I’d love to make it public, I’ll wait to hear from the Board on the matter. The transcript is available on Google Docs – email me if you don’t have access to it. I have edited this video since I originally put it out.
